My main focus is on NZPO (New Zealand Post Office) equipment issued to subscribers between 1930 and 1985 but I also have some US equipment (mainly Western Electric) and will be focusing more on this in the coming year. WHAT WILL YOU FIND ON THIS WEBSITE
This website is all about antique and retro telephone collectables and is intended as an introduction to new collectors and anybody who is interested in older telecommunication technologies:
Equipment issued by the NZPO to subscribers between 1930 and 1985.
Equipment manufactured by Western Electric and issued by Bell Systems between 1935 and 1990.
WHY COLLECT OLD TELEPHONES?
Easy answer, because it's fun! Seriously though with all the changes happening in the telecommunication sector, most of these older telephones end up being thrown away and lost forever. This is just my attempt to preserve a little of that history.
DO THESE OLD PHONES STILL WORK?
In most cases, yes they do.
Like most old electronics some have deterioted and will never work again, but even these can be salvaged for parts to keep the good examples functioning.
HOW THIS WEBSITE WILL BE SET UP
The website will have 3 major sections:
- Photo gallery of my collection – all these phones are working (and well) and are used everyday.
- Hints 'N Tips – over the years I have found a few tricks that may help you to get your old telephone working again!
- Miscellaneous – Stuff that I find and think may be fun, informative or useful.
